A message from Cat Thornton, Chief Education Officer, Diverse Academies Trust

This year we would really like to support Ronald McDonald House Charities UK ‘1000 Christmas presents’ campaign.

Ronald McDonald House Charities UK provides free ‘home away from home’ accommodation to families who have a child in hospital. Across the UK, they have 12 houses, all of which offer a warm and comfortable place to rest, eat and relax, just moments away from their child’s hospital ward.

As a family, we know first-hand about the amazing work they do. When my granddaughter Betty was seven months old, she was diagnosed with an aggressive brain tumour, where she spent six months in Southampton Hospital undergoing surgery and chemotherapy. The house provided a comfortable space where my daughter and her husband could stay to be close by – I don’t know what we would have done without them.

If you feel you are able to help, we will be collecting new toys from Monday 8 November to Wednesday 24 November. Simply bring any new toy, suitable for a child 0-13 into the academy, and we will ensure it is delivered to Ronald McDonald House Charities UK, so they can be distributed during the festive season.

You can find out more about this amazing charity on their website.

Thank you for your support.
