Our end of term production was filled with joy, passion and determination from all of our key stage two performers. Whether they had a role as a named character or as part of the chorus everyone was amazing. The children have been rehearsing for several weeks, learning songs, choreography and lines alongside their usual lessons and it has been wonderful to watch their confidence grow as the production has come together.
Welcome to Normsville, where everything is perfectly normal until a slime-wave unleashes monster mayhem! When Norman Normal’s hidden secret is revealed, he’s thrown into a wonderfully weird world filled with quirky creatures, talking burger buns and unexpected friends. But with the fabulous Fifi Fanackapan determined to return everything to “normal”, Norman and the Grossbusters must race to save the city and discover that being different isn’t something to hide – it’s something to celebrate!
Our performance took place at Retford Oaks Academy where we were joined by our wonderful parents and carers who came to show their support. Many of the props and set pieces have been created in school using simple materials, showcasing the creativity and teamwork of both staff and pupils. For many of our Year 6 children, this will be their final performance before moving on to secondary school, making it an especially memorable occasion.
We’d like to extend a special thank you to Retford Oaks Academy for their continued generosity in hosting our production each year, having access to a professional stage, lighting and sound system gives our pupils an unforgettable performance experience and really helps bring the production to life. It has become a Thrumpton highlight of the year. We would like to extend a huge thank you to the staff, families and volunteers who have supported rehearsals, costume preparation and the walks to and from Retford Oaks Academy.
A big well done also goes out to Isla and Mya who have recently been performing with the MOB in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. Isla, who plays the lead role of Norman in Grossbusters, has also taken on the principal role of Jemima in the musical. Balancing rehearsals and performances for both productions has been a fantastic achievement and is a real testament to her dedication and talent.
To top it all off, we had a very special surprise guest at our evening performance – Craig Hawes, the writer of Grossbusters! It was an absolute privilege to have him in the audience and he was so complimentary about the show, praising our wonderful performers and all of the hard work that had gone into bringing Grossbusters to life. What a fantastic way to round off such a memorable production and a moment the children should all be incredibly proud of.
