Recently, a group of talented young artists from Thrumpton Primary Academy had the opportunity to showcase their creativity at the Retford Rotary Club young artist competition awards held at St. Swithun Church.

Under the guidance of Margaret, from Retford Arts Hub, some of our Key Stage 2 children collaborated on art projects during our after-school club sessions to create their entries for the competition.

Our Year 6 children, submitted entries who had dedicated themselves to a unit of learning focused on transitioning from 2D to 3D art. Over several weeks, they worked really hard learning how to scale up drawings using grids. Their hard work resulted  in the creation of large, 3D collages featuring a variety of animals. The impressive drawings were then set against nature backdrops and photographed, resulting in beautiful masterpieces.

The entries were displayed as part of an exhibition showcasing works from ten local schools, hosted at St. Swithun church. Visitors to the exhibition had the opportunity to participate in a public vote to determine the Young Artist of the Year.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Mrs. Ardren for her efforts ensuing our children could be part of this event. Congratulations to our winners and all participants, as well as to St. Swithun School, the overall winning school. It’s wonderful to see our students’ talents recognised and celebrated within the community.
