We have recently started working with the charity FareShare as part of our poverty proofing initiative.

On Tuesday 4 May, we set out a stall with incredibly generous donations of fresh food and drinks and invited our academy community to come and take what they needed. It was so successful with our families and it was such a pleasure to see how enthusiastic and thankful our parents were.

Every fortnight we receive 120kg of food, which isn’t wanted by the supermarkets, for us to give to our community for free – although lots of people have made donations towards it, even though there was no expectation for them to do so. We have been sponsored by Icon Aerospace, Retford Rotary Club and have had many donations from families and the community.

Fareshare is the UK’s national network of charitable food redistributors, made up of 18 independent organisations. Together, they take good quality surplus food from right across the food industry and get it to almost 11,000 frontline charities and community groups- us! FareShare’s role is to redistribute food which would have otherwise been disposed of by the supermarkets.

Our next donations stall will be on Tuesday 18 May.
