At Thrumpton Primary Academy we think it is important to recognise hard work, determination and resilience, and a fantastic example of this is our swimming star Sam.

Within the academy we have heard updates about Sam’s swimming achievements in our Friday assemblies. However this week we had to share his amazing achievements with everyone.

Last weekend Sam qualified for the East Midlands Regional Championships! To get to the regionals in his first year of competitive swimming is an incredible achievement.

Sam qualified for six races in last weekend’s event and made it into the final for all six races, achieving three personal bests. He got a silver medal in his 200m butterfly final – taking 10 seconds off his previous time.

This has now placed him 12th in the county rankings for 200m butterfly in his age group.

Sam trains seven times a week and gets up at 4:30am three times a week to do this. He takes all of this in his stride and sometimes doesn’t even tell us about his success – his Mum has to share it with us. We are so glad she does as we are so proud of Sam and his incredible swimming success.

He is an incredible example of resilience, hard work, and being the best you can be!

Well done Sam!
